Scholarships

Lola M. Cone Healthcare Scholarship
Mrs. Lola Cone’s commitment to education and health care has contributed to the establishment of a responsive and caring healing ministry in the St. Joseph Health System and has made her a symbol of faith and strength to the community she served. The Lola M. Cone Healthcare Scholarship was established in 2001 and provides assistance to graduating high school students in the Brazos Valley interested in pursuing a degree in a health care related field.

Sr. Gregory Healthcare Education Fund
Sister Gregory exemplifies the Franciscan values of reverence, service and stewardship, and through these attributes has demonstrated the healing ministry of Christ to those around her. Her dedication and spirit have carried forth the mission of the Sisters of St. Francis throughout the Brazos Valley for 60 years. The Sister M. Gregory Healthcare Education Fund established in 1994 provides scholarships on an annual basis to assist current and future caregivers in expanding their education horizons. The Sister M. Gregory Healthcare Scholarship is available to team members and dependents of team members.

Peter J. Palasota, III, M.D. Medical Scholarship
The Peter J. Palasota, III, M.D. Medical Scholarship Fund was established in December of 2001 to assist current and future health caregivers that need financial assistance to expand their educational horizons. This award gives preference to those born in Brazos or Robertson Counties.

Marshall Verne Ross Foundation Scholarship
The Marshall Verne Ross Annual Scholarship was established in September of 2004 by Amanda and Mary Frances Ross. A total of $10,000 ($5,000 contingent) is to be distributed in the 07-08 school year, awarded to students, not restricted to high school, who might not otherwise qualify for a scholarship. There are (5/5 contingent) ten scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each to be awarded to applicants of any age pursuing a medically related field.

Sister Gretchen Kunz Healthcare Scholarship
The Sister Gretchen Kunz Healthcare Scholarship was established in June of 2005 as a tribute to establish a legacy in her name that would benefit future health caregivers for generations to come. It was developed out of recognition and deep respect for her tireless efforts to improve healthcare in our community, and in honor of her motto of “there is no end to getting better.” This scholarship will provide scholarship funds on an annual basis to assist current and future caregivers in expanding their educational horizons. Healthcare professionals in areas such as nursing, laboratory, physical therapy, radiology, pharmacy, medical records, dietary and other medically related fields of study will all benefit from this educational funding effort.

Eugene Edge III Revocable Trust
A total of $2,000 in 07-08 in scholarships is to be awarded with no restriction other than for medical scholarships.
