Giving Opportunities
St. Francis Tree of Life
A flourishing live oak tree, carefully planted and nurtured, provides shade from the hot summer sun and a promise of brighter days to come during bleak winter months. Similarly, the St. Francis Tree of Life symbolizes the community nurturing of, and support for, local cancer treatment services. More than 550 individuals, families, businesses and private foundations have enabled this tree to grow enhancing the hope of a brighter tomorrow for patients and their families.
The altruistic contributions to the growth of the St. Joseph Regional Cancer Center were honored during the unveiling of the beautiful wood and metal sculpture in September, 1997. Stepping stones, doves, acorns, and a plethora of leaves adorn the Tree and are complemented by an Honor Roll of Donors. This distinctive recognition system reflects the more than $700,000 in gifts made directly to the Cancer Center as well as funds raised through BRAZOS BASH efforts since 1993.
In honor of the significance of these gifts, this unique work-of-art is prominently displayed in the lobby of the Cancer Center. “We want to express our appreciation to everyone who has helped further the vision of expanding local cancer care services to meet the growing needs of this region,” states Sister Gretchen Kunz, OSF, FACHE, President/CEO of St. Joseph Health System. “Each and every gift, both large and small, provides encouragement for the patients, families and care givers alike.”
Just as a live oak continues to grow and change, the St. Francis Tree of Life, will continue to spread its branches as future donations are recognized by donor name and/or in honor of family or friends. Contribution amounts will be the cumulative total of donations since 1993, made either directly to the Center or in support of Brazos Bash fund-raising events. They will also include pledged gifts to achieve the following designations:
| $25, 000+ Stepping Stone | $2,500+ Golden Leaf |
| $10,000+ Wooden Dove w/ Golden Plate | $1,000+ Bronze Leaf |
| $7,500+ Golden Dove | $500+ Silver Leaf |

A community partnership of compassionate individuals has enhanced the vision of providing accessible, innovative medical care for more than 65 years. The generous sharing of resources, dedicated to declaring “war on cancer” will benefit the Brazos Valley for many years to come.
